Tirzepatide (Mounjaro) with its “twincreatin” action results in even greater weight loss and less side effects that semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy)
Tirzepatide (Mounjaro) is a dual incretin agonist or a “twincreatin” that acts on TWO hunger hormone receptors: GIP and GLP-1. These target areas of the brain and gut that regulate appetite and satiety (sense of fullness after eating). In 2022, it was released as an anti-diabetic medication used to treat type 2 diabetes under the name Mounjaro It was recently given "Fast Track" designation by the FDA in order to speed up the development and expedite the review to approve Mounjaro for the treatment of obesity.
Unfortunately, a lot of medications used to treat obesity are not usually covered by insurance and the cost of Mounjaro is currently approximately $1000 per month. Our tirzepatide is specially compounded version that costs significantly less than the branded version.
Tirzepatide treatment is a once a week subcutaneous (SQ) injection which is typically injected into the subcutaneous fat. SQ injections are VERY easy to do and usually painless! Most patients learn how to do this during the first visit.
